WEC secures Qatar Airways title sponsorship for 2024 opening race

The World Endurance Championship (WEC) has announced Qatar Airways as the title partner for its opening race of the 2024 season.

Contract:

  • Season opener at Lusail International Circuit to be named Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 Km
  • National flag carrier also named event’s official airline partner

Context:

Lusail International Circuit in Qatar is hosting the WEC’s prologue and season opener for the first time as part of a deal running until 2029. The circuit is one of four new venues on the 2024 WEC calendar, joining Imola, São Paulo and Austin on the eight-round schedule.

Comment:

“We are delighted to welcome Qatar Airways onboard as our title sponsor for the inaugural Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 Km,” said WEC chief executive Frédéric Lequien. “We are two brands who are striving to deliver premium experiences for our customers and fans; therefore, this partnership is the perfect fit.”

Thierry Antinori, Qatar Airways’ chief commercial officer, added: “Staging these major events allows us to connect fans from around the world to watch their favourite sports and even welcome them to our home and hub – Qatar. Our brand will be displayed trackside, as we look forward to engaging with fans at the circuit and with motorsport audiences online.”
