Nascar teams up with Meta’s Xtadium for VR playoffs experience

Postseason broadcasts to be available in mixed reality on Meta Quest headsets.

Nascar has teamed up with Meta’s Xtadium streaming platform to broadcast the 2023 playoffs in mixed reality.

Confirmed:

  • All ten races can be watched in mixed reality on Meta Quest headsets
  • Content will be available for 48 hours after the conclusion of each event
  • Fans can view up to eight distinct camera angles simultaneously

Context:

This is the first time a racing event of this kind will be viewable in mixed reality, although Xtadium is only available in the US currently. With this agreement, Nascar is following in the footsteps of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which recently increased the number of live fights it will broadcast through Meta’s Xtadium.

Comment:

Mitch Rasmussen, director of Web 3.0 at Nascar, said: “At Nascar, we are always looking for ways to experiment with new emerging technology to create unique and compelling experiences for our fans. Mixed reality represents a customisable and immersive experience for fans to connect with the sports and events they love most. We’re excited to work with YBVR to bring this vision to life for our race fans..”

Coming next:

Nascar has just five races left in this year’s playoffs, with the Bank of America Roval 400 taking place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on 8th October.
