Nascar has partnered with esports organisation Blast to sponsor two upcoming competitive gaming tournaments.

Contract:

  • Nascar to sponsor 2024 Fortnite Championship Series (FNCS) Global Championship and Rocket League World Championship
  • Blast and Nascar hope partnership will ‘amplify the event experience’ for fans both digitally and physically
  • Agreement includes broadcast content with popular Fortnite and Rocket League players taking on Nascar-inspired challenges
  • Nascar show car will be on display at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, where the events are being held

Context:

Nascar is leaning into esports to help grow its audience in recent years, starting with its eNascar iRacing Pro Invitational Series during the height of Covid-19. The US stock car racing series also inked a partnership with Gen.G last summer, strengthening its commitment to the Rocket League community, having already partnered with the game’s developer Psyonix. In July, Nascar entered the Fortnite ecosystem with a racing experience built in Rocket Racing.

This year’s FNCS Global Championship and Rocket League World Championship feature a combined prize pool exceeding US$3 million, with more than 148 players from over 35 countries competing.

Comment:

Nick Rend, vice president of interactive and emerging platforms for Nascar, said: “We’ve always believed in meeting fans where they are, and this partnership with Blast is a perfect example of that.

“We’re not just showing up – we’re fully immersing Nascar in the energy and excitement of these events. Whether it’s through our existing in-game presence in Rocket League and now the Fortnite ecosystem or the show car at Dickies Arena, we’re here to celebrate with the community and add to the incredible experience for fans and competitors.”

Coming next:

Nascar will feature at the FNCS Global Championship from 7th to 8th September before the Rocket League World Championship, which takes place from 10th to 15th September.
