- Acquisition was financed by Ikon Capital
- Hervé Poncharal will continue to lead the team until the end of the year
Former Haas Formula One team boss Günther Steiner has bought the MotoGP outfit Tech3 in a deal reportedly worth just under €20 million (US$23.5 million).
Financed by Ikon Capital, the acquisition will see a consortium led by Steiner assume control of the team, including its Moto3 entry, from the 2026 season. Steiner will take on the role of chief executive, with project partner Richard Coleman appointed team principal.
Founder and current team principal Hervé Poncharal will continue to lead the team until the end of the season before transitioning into a role nurturing young talent for Tech3.
The team will continue to compete as Tech3 under its new ownership, fielding KTM machinery and operating out of their long-standing base in Bormes-les-Mimosas, France.

“This is a fantastic opportunity,” said Steiner. “Tech3 is a great team with a huge amount of potential and an impressive legacy. Hervé’s impact on the team and MotoGP itself cannot be overstated, and we’re honoured to take over and keep building on those foundations.
“We’re excited to become part of the MotoGP paddock and maximise the potential of the team and the sport as it continues to grow, helping to bring it to new audiences.”
Coleman added: “We are approaching this project with humility, recognising the incredible talent and expertise that already exists across the MotoGP paddock, but also with ambition.
“We’re here to compete, not just participate, on every level, with a real passion for the sport. We want to connect with even ore fans and show off the best of MotoGP.”
The deal comes in the wake of Liberty Media’s acquisition of MotoGP, a move that likely caught Steiner’s attention as he seeks a strong return on investment should MotoGP mirror Formula One’s explosive growth under the company.
