The all-electric Formula E series has recorded a 140 per cent growth for the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Girls on Track programme in 2023.

Confirmed:

  • Formula E delivered five events for the FIA-backed initiative last year for girls aged 12 to 18
  • There has been a further 25 per cent growth in the first two events of 2024

Context:

Despite not featuring at every race last season, the series’ drive to push the FIA Girls on Track initiative has seen positive growth. This is only good news for this year after Formula E announced its intention to expand the programme to every race in 2024.

Since Formula E began hosting the sessions at races in Season 5, more than 2,000 young girls have benefited from the programme and even made their way into roles within the all-electric championship and wider motorsport sector.

Comment:

“The growth of this leading programme has been incredible to see as young girls start to embrace and pursue opportunities around STEM education and motorsport,” said Julia Pallé, vice president of sustainability at Formula E.

“Formula E is a pioneer in this space and acts as a genuine platform to upskill and educate girls, but most importantly giving them confidence to pursue their dreams and achieve great things within the motorsport sector.”

Coming next:

Formula E returns for its fourth round of the season in São Paulo, Brazil this weekend, with the race taking place on 16th March.
