F1 Academy has revealed its previously announced docuseries will launch globally on Netflix in 2025.
Confirmed:
- Actress and producer Reece Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company will produce series
- Multi-part series to give exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the drivers, balancing personal stories with on-track coverage
Context:
Having been first announced in May 2023, a destination for the docuseries has finally been revealed. Sitting with Formula One’s Drive to Survive series will give the new all-female version visibility, while it may also present itself as a fresh alternative to the somewhat formulaic main Netflix docuseries.
Comment:
“We want to be the rocket fuel that drives female participation in our sport, both on and off the track,” said Susie Wolff, managing director of F1 Academy. “To have the F1 Academy docuseries launch globally with Netflix is not just a huge step forward in visibility for our mission, but also a resounding statement about the momentum and demand for women’s sport.
“We want to inspire and empower the next generation of young women, and Netflix will open up F1 Academy to a global audience of existing and future fans.”
Coming next:
Now two weekends into its 2024 season, F1 Academy will host its fifth and sixth races of the year at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in support of the Spanish Grand Prix on 22nd and 23rd June.
