E1, the all-electric powerboat championship, has finalised its 2025 schedule with the addition of a race at Lake Maggiore in Italy.

Confirmed:

  • Lake Maggiore becomes the third race of the 2025 E1 season
  • Both Lake Como and an unconfirmed location are dropped from the schedule

Context:

Lake Maggiore in Italy has history with hydrofoil development, having been the location of the world’s first passenger hydrofoil service in 1953. It also acted as an early testing ground as the E1 concept was developed. However, in the process of this announcement, races in Lake Como in August and a second unconfirmed location in October are no longer part of the championship’s schedule. BlackBook Motorsport has contacted E1 for comment.

Comment:

“The E1 Lago Maggiore GP tells a fascinating story of history and innovation on water,” said E1 co-founder and chairman Alejandro Agag.

“We’re very excited to continue this narrative with our pioneering championship – bringing our electrifying brand of racing to a place of real natural beauty.”

Rodi Basso, co-founder and chief executive of E1, added: “We feel a sense of deep connection with Lago Maggiore – a place entwined with the technical innovation of hydrofoil technology, and an early testing ground for the development of E1 … we are proud to be driving economic growth and technical innovation.”

Coming next:

The all-electric powerboat championship will visit Lake Maggiore in Northern Italy from 27th to 28th June.
