The E1 World Championship will head to Miami for its season finale in 2025.

Confirmed:

  • The Miami GP will be held on Virginia Key, adjacent to the Miami Marine Stadium
  • Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) also named series’ presenting partner

Context:

E1 has marked the US as a key part of its expansion strategy, much like most other motorsport series. However, E1 is not just following a broad trend, given the US is home to the world’s largest recreational boat market and the series boasts several American owners, including Marc Anthony, Will Smith, Tom Brady and Steve Aoki.

Miami has become a destination for motorsport series looking to grow their footprint in the US, with Formula E having agreed a deal to race in the city in its 2024/25 season. Formula One began this trend in 2022, and the Miami International Autodrome has established four new track layouts in an effort to encourage more motorsport series to race there.

PIF was already the principal sponsor of E1 through the Electric 360 partnership, which also includes Formula E and Extreme H, but the presenting partner agreement gives the sovereign wealth fund an even more visible position within the powerboat championship.

Comment:

Alejandro Agag, chairman of E1, said: “Miami has a rich history in both powerboating and marine innovation – it’s the perfect home for our RaceBird, the world’s first all-electric race boat we developed specifically for this innovative championship.

“Hosting E1 in Miami and the US was always a dream for us, and through our partnership with PIF, we’re excited to bring the future of racing on water to Floridians and the world and showcase the power of the electrification of sport.”

Coming next:

E1’s 2025 season finale is scheduled for November, although a firm date is yet to be confirmed.
