Report: Ten remains FTA home of Australia’s F1 and MotoGP races

Sublicensing agreement with Foxtel will see Australian viewers gain access to home events.

Australian commercial broadcaster Ten has secured the rights to show the Formula One and MotoGP races held in the country through a multi-year sublicensing agreement with pay-TV network Foxtel, according to TV Blackbox.

Foxtel retained exclusive coverage of MotoGP in 2021 and this year extended its broadcast partnership with Formula One in a deal reportedly worth up to AUS$45 million (US$28 million) a year.

However, the Australian government's anti-siphoning broadcast laws dictate that Foxtel must sublicense the rights to both the Australian Grand Prix and the country's MotoGP race to a free-to-air (FTA) partner.

The deal will kick off with MotoGP's Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, with Ten presenting two days of live coverage from 15th to 16th October.

The 2023 Australian Grand Prix will take place on 2nd April, which will be the third race of Formula One's record-breaking season.
