The Aston Martin Formula One team have appointed Andy Cowell as their new team principal ahead of the 2025 season.
Confirmed:
- Cowell will combine the team principal role with his existing responsibilities as chief executive
- Former team principal Mike Krack becomes chief trackside officer
- Enrico Cardile fills the role of chief technical officer
Context:
The organisational restructure sees the team’s operations divided into two clear pillars. Krack will focus on getting the most performance out of the car at the racetrack in what is essentially a demotion for the former team principal. Cardile will oversee the architecture, design and build of new race cars. Adrian Newey, who is joining the team officially on 2nd March, will sit alongside Cowell as managing technical partner.
Tom McCullough, who led trackside engineering as performance director previously, remains with the team in a leadership position. The team statement says he will play a ‘critical role in the expansion of the team’s broader range of racing categories’.
Comment:
“I have spent the last three months understanding and assessing our performance, and I’ve been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team,” said Cowell.
“With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition in 2026 to a full works team, alongside our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we are on a journey to becoming a championship-winning team.
“These organisational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plans that we have scheduled to make and I’m incredibly excited about the future.”
Coming next:
Andy Cowell’s first race as team principal will be the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, taking place from 14th to 16th March.
