WRC adds Latvia to 2024 calendar

New stop-off steps up from ERC schedule.

The World Rally Championship (WRC) has added Latvia to its 2024 calendar, promoting it from the European Rally Championship (ERC).

Confirmed:

  • First WRC visit to Latvia
  • Latvia has been on the ERC calendar since 2013

Context: WRC Promoter, which runs both the WRC and the ERC, has previously pledged one slot of its calendar to a rotational event between the two series. Promoting Latvia to the WRC calendar for 2024 highlights that the series will take advantage of emerging audiences.

Comment: Peter Thul, senior director of sport for WRC Promoter, said: “This decision highlights the strategic importance of the Baltic regions for WRC. We have a longstanding relationship with broadcast partner TV3 and look forward to expanded collaboration with them for the 2024 event. This, as well as our ever-increasing network of over 50 broadcasters in more than 150 countries, makes WRC one of the most widely viewed motorsport championships on the planet.”

Coming next: The dates of the event are yet to be confirmed, but the Tet Rally Latvia takes place on gravel roads and has a reputation for being one of the most challenging rallies in Europe.
