The World Rally Championship (WRC) has signed a two-year extension with the Acropolis Rally in Greece.
Contract:
- Acropolis Rally will return to its traditional June slot from next season
- Original contract between WRC and event organisers expired in 2025
Context:
The Acropolis Rally was a founding member of WRC, appearing on the inaugural schedule in 1973. It was demoted to being a European Rally Championship (ERC) event in 2014, before falling out of the rotation entirely in 2019.
The event was quickly revived in 2021 thanks to an increase in government support, although not in its traditional June slot. The last Acropolis Rally to be held in June was in 2013.
Comment:
“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with the EKO Acropolis Rally Greece,” said WRC Promoter managing director Jona Siebel. “This rally is a cornerstone of our championship and a favorite among our global fanbase and competitors alike.
