Ferrari has announced it will remain in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) until the end of current Hypercar regulations in 2029.

The Italian marque had originally signed a five-year deal to race in the championship, which was in line with the regulations at the time of its entry in 2023. However, the current rules cycle was extended until the end of the 2029 season at the 2024 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“Our programme was born for five years from 2023 until ’27 because it was a cycle that the FIA defined in terms of rules,” said Antonello Coletta, Ferrari’s sportscar racing boss, as reported by Autosport.

“Now the FIA has moved [the end of the cycle] to 2029, and for Ferrari it is confirmed that we go ahead until ’29.”

The new rules announced by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the Automobile Club of the West (ACO) will allow current manufacturers to continue with their present machinery until 2029. The goal is to bring LMH and LMDh rules together for the start of the 2030 season, something that Ferrari is in support of.

“If we have the same platform, it will be easier [to balance the cars] than today,” Coletta explained.

This is not a confirmation that Ferrari will continue in WEC beyond the current cycle. Coletta said it was “too early to speak about it, because we have nothing on the table, only a hypothetical new way”.

That said, WEC will be encouraged to see renewed commitment from one of its major manufacturers following the recent departures of Porsche and Lamborghini. And with Genesis, McLaren and Ford all set to join the series over the next two years, the championship remains in a strong position.

In other Ferrari news, it has expanded its global partnership with Greek yoghurt company Fage. From next season, the brand will become a premium partner of the Hypercar team in WEC, building on its existing deal supporting the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli from this season.
