Last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix on ESPN was the second-most watched ever in the US.

Confirmed:

  • An average of 1.1 million viewers tune in to watch Lewis Hamilton take his second victory of the season after his teammate George Russell was disqualified
  • Average viewership falls six per cent from last season’s audience of 1.17 million viewers, although this season’s race was likely impacted by the Paris Olympics

Context:

Despite a small drop in viewership, this figure is impressive considering the competition from the Paris Olympics. For context, it nearly doubles the audience from 2021 (637,000). It also continues an impressive run for Formula One after the series initially struggled for US viewership in 2024.

The uptick in audience numbers has coincided with the season becoming one of the most competitive in recent memory. After just two of the first seven races of the year recorded over one million viewers, the next seven have all managed the same feat.

Coming next:

Formula One is now on its summer break, returning at Circuit Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix from 23rd to 25th August.
