TWG Global, the company that has assumed control of the Andretti Global empire, has established TWG Motorsports to manage its motorsport entries.

Confirmed:

  • The division will manage Cadillac’s Formula One entry, the Andretti IndyCar and Formula E teams, and Spire Motorsports in Nascar
  • It will also include Wayne Taylor Racing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and Walkinshaw Andretti United in the Supercars Championship
  • Dan Towriss will lead TWG Motorsports as chief executive

Context:

TWG Motorsports was created in late 2024, but this announcement marks the official launch of the division. Dan Towriss has been in control of the motorsport operations since taking over the day-to-day running of Andretti Global from Michael Andretti.

TWG Global is the investment vehicle for Mark Walter, the chief executive of Guggenheim Partners which has more than US$310 billion of assets under management. Its sports portfolio includes the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB), English soccer team Chelsea, and the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Comment:

“Dan has been instrumental in forming the landmark Cadillac Formula One team in partnership with General Motors and acquiring for TWG Global a broad racing portfolio that includes Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Spire Motorsports,” Walter said.

Towriss added: “With a combination of operational excellence, technology and innovation, TWG Motorsports has the opportunity to drive true transformation in racing, set new standards for the industry and build a legacy of success across the globe.”

Coming next:

Once the Cadillac Formula One team formally enters the series in 2026, TWG Global will have investments in all major motorsport series but one. Liberty Media’s impending takeover of MotoGP will likely attract much external interest in the series, so don’t be surprised if TWG Global’s new motorsport division eyes an opportunity on two wheels next.
