Team Penske have announced that long-serving executive Tim Cindric will step down as president after 25 years.
Confirmed:
- Cindric will no longer be involved in the day-to-day operations of the team’s racing programmes
- 56-year-old will remain president of Penske’s IndyCar operations and have oversight of the team’s racing archives
- The rest of the management structure remains unchanged, but all executives now report directly to Roger Penske
Context:
While Cindric will no longer be in control, he is going to be involved in at least some aspects of Team Penske moving forward. After all, he also acts as a race strategist for Josef Newgarden and the team’s statement makes no mention of him departing that role.
Last year, Cindric was embroiled in controversy around the push-to-pass scandal at IndyCar’s season-opening race in St Petersburg and was suspended for two races. While he will remain involved in IndyCar moving forward, Cindric steps away from the organisation’s operations in Nascar, IMSA and the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Comment:
‘Really tough few days having to let those I’ve worked so close with to achieve so much know that I need to make a change that reprioritises some areas of my life. The journey I’ve been on has been amazing but it’s time for me to catch up on some things that I’ve missed in life along the way,’ Cindric wrote on X.
‘To be clear, this was totally my choice. I didn’t get pushed out of the team in any way. I’m really appreciative that Roger and I could find a way to stay together and that I can continue working in the sport I fell in love with as a child. Can’t wait for St Pete!’
Coming next:
The team’s new operational structure will be in place when the new IndyCar season gets underway at the Grand Prix of St Petersburg from 28th February to 2nd March.
