Gene Haas has opted to remain in Nascar from the 2025 season following Stewart-Haas Racing’s decision to leave the series.
Confirmed:
- The Haas Factory Team will operate one of the charters being vacated by Stewart-Haas Racing in the Cup Series
- A two-car team will run in Xfinity Series, continuing the former outfit’s involvement in the second-tier series
- Joe Custer will be president of the team and it will operate out of the existing Stewart-Haas facility in Kannapolis, North Carolina
Context:
Stewart-Haas Racing’s four-car Cup Series team and the outfit’s two-car entry in the second-tier Xfinity Series will cease running at the end of this season. Stewart and Haas first partnered in 2009. Haas has been involved in Nascar since 2002.
It has already been announced that Front Row Motorsports will be taking over one of the charters, which means there are two charters up for grabs from next season. Negotiations over a new agreement from the 2025 season are at a standstill, but Nascar’s owners are exploring options to allow them to own a charter – which is banned under the current terms.
Comment:
“My commitment to motorsports hasn’t changed, just the scope of my involvement,” Haas said. “Operating a four-car Cup Series team has become too arduous but, at the same time, I still need a platform to promote Haas Automation and grow HaasTooling.com.
“Maintaining my presence in Cup allows Haas Automation to compete at Nascar’s highest level, which is important to our customers and distributors. The Xfinity Series programme provides a full weekend experience for our guests, and it delivers added depth and scale to our overall operation.”
