MotoGP has confirmed that Balaton Park in Hungary will host the series during the 2025 season.

Confirmed:

  • The circuit and its facilities will undergo upgrades ahead of its debut on the calendar
  • Provisional dates for the event are from 22nd to 24th August
  • The venue will also be included on the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) schedule

Context:

Balaton Park was a reserve venue during the 2024 MotoGP season, but it was not called upon despite numerous scheduling issues that saw Argentina, India and Kazakhstan all dropped from the calendar. This full contract with the Hungarian venue is not connected to the reserve deal.

This will be Hungary’s first MotoGP race for 33 years, having previously hosted two races in 1990 and 1992. Both took place at the Hungaroring. Ahead of the return, work will be undertaken on the infrastructure and fan services to ensure Balaton Park can accommodate the large crowds expected.

Comment:

Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive of Dorna Sports, said: “We’re very happy to announce that Balaton Park will be on the 2025 calendar for MotoGP and WorldSBK. The circuit is in a spectacular location and will be a fantastic destination for fans to come and see the world’s most exciting sport in action.

“Work is underway to get the venue ready for its historic debut on the calendar, adding another chapter to Hungary’s history in motorcycle Grand Prix racing, and we’re very much looking forward to returning to a key market in central Europe.”

Coming next:

This weekend sees MotoGP remain in Misano for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which takes place from 20th to 22nd September. This slot was originally slated for the Indian Grand Prix before the Kazakhstan Grand Prix was put forward as the intended replacement, but both races were ultimately cancelled.
