MotoGP has agreed a five-year deal to race in Brazil from 2026.

Contract:

  • Deal signed between MotoGP, the government of Goiás and Brasil Motorsport
  • Series will race at the Goiânia International Racetrack Ayrton Senna

Context:

The circuit hosted MotoGP between 1987 and 1989, but the series moved elsewhere in Brazil after this initial run and last raced in the country in 2004. The new deal adds a second South American race after Argentina, although it’s unclear when it will return to the calendar after this year’s race was cancelled amid ongoing economic certainty in the country.

This is also not the first time that MotoGP has announced a five-year deal to race in Brazil, having done similar in 2019 to race at a new circuit in Rio de Janeiro, but this move was eventually canned.

Comment:

“We are very much looking forward to returning to Brazil,” said Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive of MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports.

“We have a good fanbase who we know are excited about this news, just as we’re eager to return to race for them again, and this new agreement also offers a fantastic opportunity to expand in a key market for the sport and our manufacturers.

“Brazil is a global player and somewhere we have always believed deserves a space on our calendar. Working with the government of Goiás and Brasil Motorsport, who have an impressive and proven track record, is an opportunity we are very excited to take.”

Coming next:

The race has been earmarked for a debut in March 2026 and MotoGP will hope the event goes off without a hitch after numerous scheduling issues recently.
