Mercedes-AMG will join the World Endurance Championship (WEC) grid from next season.

Contract:

  • The German manufacturer will partner with the Iron Lynx team from next season
  • Mercedes-AMG will field two cars in the LMGT3 category

Context:

This will be Mercedes’ debut season in WEC and its first 24 Hours of Le Mans entry since 1999. It will enter the successful Mercedes GT3, which has won the 24-hour races at Spa and Nurburgring.

The German manufacturer replaces Iron Lynx’s previous partner Lamborghini, which has all but confirmed its exit from the endurance racing championship.

Comment:

“It’s no secret that we’ve been very keen for some time to come back to Le Mans,” said Christoph Sagemüller, head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport.

“The 2025 season with the FIA WEC entry is the right moment. The first FIA WEC season with LMGT3 cars has already been extremely interesting, and we want to bring even more excitement to the field in the future!

“Our successful Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the experienced Iron Lynx team is the right pairing to set another major milestone in our Customer Racing success story. I am already very much looking forward to the new season, and our ‘new start’ at the 24 Hours of Le Mans will certainly be a highlight.”

Coming next:

Mercedes will mark its first race in WEC at the season-opening Qatar 1812km at Losail International Circuit on 28th February.
