- Event is due to be held from 21st to 23rd August
- IndyCar was reportedly prepared to call off event as recently as 22nd January
IndyCar has partnered with Monumental Sports and Entertainment (MSE) to promote this summer’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington DC.
The event will mark the first motor race to be staged on the National Mall, taking place from 21st to 23rd August to commemorate 250 years of US independence.
MSE will serve as the official marketing, sponsorships and corporate hospitality sales agency for the race weekend. The company already has an extensive sporting presence in DC through its ownership of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Washington Capitals, the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Washington Wizards and the Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) Washington Mystics.
“This is an incredible partnership built to make history on the streets of our nation’s capital,” said Bud Denker, chairman of the race and president of Penske Corporation.
“Like our organisation, Monumental Sports and Entertainment is a highly driven and mission-oriented team, excited and ready to provide an exceptional showcase of speed, innovation and patriotic pride as the NTT IndyCar Series brings the fastest racing on earth to the National Mall.”
