IndyCar is eyeing new markets as it targets future races in Denver and Mexico, according to the series’ chief executive Mark Miles.

US-based IndyCar has already confirmed its return to Texas in 2026 with the Arlington Grand Prix at the AT&T Stadium, home of the National Football League’s (NFL) Dallas Cowboys, but the series is now looking further afield.

“A new race isn’t added until everything’s done right, contracted for and all of that follows on us being convinced that we would have the right partnerships or promoters in the right markets,” Miles told Motorsport.com.

“It’s too early to declare victory on any of the possibilities that you mentioned, but it is true that both of those markets [Denver and Mexico] are a work in progress. Look, if we land one of the two for as early as 2026 that’d be terrific, along with Arlington.”

A street race in Denver has long been rumoured for IndyCar, while the clamour for a return to Mexico for the first time since 2007 has increased due to the increasing popularity of home hero Pato O’Ward.

The series was outmaneuvered by Nascar, which will be racing in Mexico City this season, but IndyCar is still targeting an expansion into the country despite the competition.

Expanding into new markets will provide a welcome boost to the series, which is also set to enjoy unprecedented broadcast exposure through its new TV deal with Fox.

Miles continued: “I think it all builds on itself. Who knows what the Arlington announcement may bring us in addition, subsequently.

“I think the Fox news was probably one of the biggest things, but it’s all part of an announced strategy where we decided we’re prepared to promote more races ourselves – we want to be opportunistic about that, but where it’s important and allows us to get into a market sooner than it might happen otherwise.”
