Formula E agrees pan-Europe media rights extension with Warner Bros Discovery

Contract includes exclusive rights in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Spain, and Turkey.

Formula E has signed a multi-year media rights extension across 50 markets in Europe with Warner Bros Discovery (WBD).

Confirmed:

  • Exclusive broadcasting rights in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Spain, and Turkey
  • Deal includes live race coverage in Italy for the first time since 2020
  • Multi-year agreement to extend long-term relationship ‘beyond 12 years’

Context:

This multi-year extension continues a broadcast partnership that began in the 2015 season, just the second year of Formula E. A WBD statement reveals this extension will stretch that relationship ‘beyond 12 years’, implying the deal will last until at least 2027.

WBD will utilise its full suite of linear and digital channels across Europe to provide live and on-demand coverage, including pay-TV (Eurosport 1 and 2), streaming (Max, Discovery+, the Eurosport app, and Eurosport Extra), free-to-air and the Eurosport website.

Comment:

Aarti Dabas, chief media officer at Formula E, said: “Eurosport has been a key player in growing our European fanbase since 2015 and which helped achieve record live audiences for Formula E racing last season.

“We are delighted to extend this major media partnership with WBD and will work together to continue building the Formula E fanbase across Europe.”

Coming next:

The 2024 Formula E season gets underway this weekend at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico, with the Mexico City E-Prix on 13th January.
