Hankook will conclude its tyre supply deal with Formula E by title sponsoring three race weekends during the 2024/25 season.
Contract:
- Hankook will title sponsor the Mexico City, Shanghai and Berlin E-Prix
- Tyre manufacturer’s original deal included five races across three weekends for each season of its three-year agreement with the series
Context:
This will be the third and final season of Hankook’s tyre supply deal with Formula E before Japanese firm Bridgestone takes over from the 2025/26 campaign onwards, when the Gen4 regulations debut.
This agreement falls in line with the original deal, which included five races across three weekends for each season. That saw Hankook title sponsor the Mexico City, Rome and London events in the 2022/23 season and the Mexico City, Portland and London events in the 2023/24 campaign.
All in all, it’s unsurprising to see Hankook exit Formula E following a season full of complaints from drivers and teams.
However, the all-electric series provides a difficult brief for prospective manufacturers with one type of tyre for all conditions, although the new tyre tender introduces a ‘typhoon’ tyre for extreme conditions, likely in response to drivers struggling for grip in heavy rain this season.
