Formula E has agreed a deal to collaborate with all-electric off-road motorcycle series E-Xplorer.

Contract:

  • The two series will collaborate around shared learning and showcasing electric vehicle (EV) performance
  • The first demonstration will be at Formula E’s round in Misano, Italy
  • Strategic roundtables will be staged to bring together experts from each championship

Context:

E-Xplorer is currently in its debut season, having seen its original start date delayed 12 months due to a parts supply issue. On its website, E-Xplorer says it is aiming to ‘tap into the escalating demand for electric motorsports’ and serve as ‘a testing ground for the latest two-wheel technology’.

As test beds for the latest EV technology, both championships will discuss how consumer applications can continue to be influenced and enhanced by race day learning.

Comment:

“Collaborating with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is something I’ve eagerly awaited,” said Valentin Guyonnet, chief executive of E-Xplorer.

“Our goal is to provide motorcycle manufacturers with the premier racing platform to advance electric powertrain technology to its pinnacle. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship couldn’t be a better championship to learn from.”

Jeff Dodds, chief executive of Formula E, added: “It is exciting to bring some of the best minds together from across both championships and continue to push forward the development of electric technology.

“Having the e-bikes perform at our first ever Misano E-Prix will add another dimension of entertainment for fans and highlight the raw performance that EVs can deliver both on and off the track.”

Coming next:

The E-Xplorer demonstration at the Misano E-Prix will take place three weekends before the E-Xplorer World Cup’s second round in Norway from 3rd to 4th May.
