Formula E and logistics partner DHL have collaborated on the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to transport freight between Berlin and Shanghai.
Confirmed:
- SAF has been used to transport 257 tonnes of freight for all-electric series’ return to China
- Three planes were fuelled for the 6,000-mile trip
Context:
The use of SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80 per cent when compared to kerosene aviation fuel. Considering the carbon footprint of global motorsport series, it is imperative that logistics are tackled as a priority as they make up the biggest percentage of a championship’s total output.
Comment:
Julia Pallé, vice president of sustainability for Formula E, said: “This next big milestone in our sustainability journey builds on more than a decade of collaboration and success between Formula E and DHL.
“Together we continue to innovate and redefine sustainable mobility, ensuring we maintain our position as the world’s most sustainable sport.”
