Formula E could add second US race in 2024

All-electric series is looking at additional race alongside already confirmed event in Portland.

All-electric series Formula E is looking at adding an additional race in North America from next season.

Confirmed:

  • 2024 calendar had three unconfirmed slots
  • Two of these are expected to go to Hyderabad and Cape Town, pending financial negotiations
  • The third is more open, and a second North American race is one of the options being explored
  • Conversations are also being had for races in Seoul and Malaga

Context: Formula E visted Portland for the first time last weekend, with the success of the event leading the all-electric series to explore further options in the country. The series also recently signed a US-based media rights deal with CBS and Roku, with chief media officer Aarti Dabas confirming to BlackBook Motorsport that Formula E wants to “create a home in the US”.

Comment: Jeff Dodds, chief executive of Formula, told select media as reported by Motorsport.com: “We have three TBCs on the calendar, and we’re in lots of different conversations with different cities,” Dodds told selected media including Motorsport.com. “I wouldn’t rule out one of those being in North America alongside Portland.

“China is of massive importance, the largest market for electric cars. It’s one of the potential options. So is North America, which is a massive market for the series and the teams. Spain has a very strong following in motorsport, for Formula One and MotoGP. We have a lot of conversations ongoing, all very advanced.”

Coming next: Dodds also confirmed his interest in hosting a race at the Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, potentially as soon as 2025, saying that he is “excited about the conversations” currently taking place.
