Silverstone has recorded the highest single-day attendance ever in the history of the British Grand Prix.
Confirmed:
- 164,000 were in attendance as Lewis Hamilton ended nearly three years without a victory on 7th July
- The weekend crowd matched last year’s attendance of 480,000
Context:
Despite the controversy around ticket prices in the build-up to this event, Silverstone has at least managed to match last year’s attendance record. Managing director Stuart Pringle told the BBC that there was a chance they could beat the overall record, so the failure to do so will be slightly disappointing.
Indeed, this is the first year since 2018 that the crowd at the British Grand Prix has not increased year-on-year. However, it’s worth noting that the attendance growth in that time has been remarkable, with 340,000 people attending the race six years ago.
Coming next:
Formula One has just two races left before its summer break. Next up is the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the Hungaroring hosting the series from 19th to 21st July.
