The Mercedes Formula One team have signed a sustainability-focused partnership with lighting company Signify.
Contract:
- Signify’s products will be used to deliver optimal lighting conditions for the Brackley-based outfit’s drivers, engineers and team members
- The lighting company will also share knowledge with Mercedes to support the team’s sustainability ambitions
Context:
Like Mercedes, Signify has a goal to be Net Zero by 2040. As part of this aim, the lighting company has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions across the full value chain by 50 per cent since 2019. This falls in line with the Formula One team’s recent investments in carbon removal initiatives.
Outside of the long-term goals of this partnership, Signify’s products will focus on creating optimal conditions for Mercedes. The company’s lighting is designed to replicate natural light, which aids concentration, reduces eye strain, and supports the body’s natural rhythm – this is especially important when adjusting to Formula One’s global schedule.
Comment:
Toto Wolff, team principal and chief executive of Mercedes, said: “Innovation and performance are at the heart of everything we do. We are also conscious of our wider social responsibilities and therefore embed sustainability in every action.
“Partnering with Signify is an exciting step that will help us make further progress in both of these areas. Their world-leading lighting technology already powers several night races and their pioneering commitment to climate action is inspiring.
“We look forward to working together to establish synergies in this area and their support in our ambition to become one of the world’s most sustainable sports teams. We also believe that wellbeing is linked closely with performance.
“Signify’s lighting technology and innovation will ensure optimal conditions for our team members, and we are excited to explore how we can optimise these opportunities further.”
