Formula One and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) have signed an official partnership.
Contract:
- Partnership will run until the end of the 2025 season
- LVCVA will receive trackside branding at a number of races this season, although specific events have not been confirmed
- The organisation will also run fan activations at select events
Context:
This partnership runs until the end of the official contract for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, although Las Vegas officials have approved the closure of the Strip until 2032.
Local residents were divided over the race, so this deal is likely to bring the two organisations closer together to deliver a more well-rounded event. Local businesses have brought court action against the Clark County government, the LVCVA and Formula One due to that disruption’s effect on their profits.
Clark County commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick has also warned that the Las Vegas Grand Prix needs to improve in its sophomore year or “there won’t be a third time”, which suggests this partnership could also be a move to ease tensions behind the scenes.
Comment:
Emily Prazer, chief commercial officer of Formula One and the Las Vegas Grand Prix, said: “We are constantly pursuing unique and exciting ways to showcase the destinations in which we race and to demonstrate the value that our sport delivers economically, culturally and for the community.
“The LVCVA were instrumental in bringing Formula One to Las Vegas as a founding partner of the race, and we are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with them to continue to position Las Vegas as the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World.”
Coming next:
The second Las Vegas Grand Prix takes place later this year from 21st to 23rd November.
