Formula One has penned a sustainability-focused partnership with Aggreko, starting from the 2025 season.
Contract:
- Multi-year deal will deliver low-carbon energy solutions to all European Grands Prix from next season
- Aggreko will become an official provider of Formula One as part of the deal
Context:
This partnership first began to develop at the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix when Formula One targeted a 90 per cent reduction in emissions produced from its paddock, pitlane and broadcast area. This was provided through power sources such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biofuel and 600m² of solar panels.
The systems returned to the Red Bull Ring this season, and was then trialled again at the Hungarian Grand Prix. It will also be in place at this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. The expansion to all European races from 2025 will mean that stakeholders are not required to use or bring their own generators as enough power is produced through the centralised system to supply all garages and motorhomes across the weekend.
Comment:
Ellen Jones, head of ESG at Formula One, said: ”The entire paddock is part of our Net Zero by 2030 commitment and solutions like the low-carbon energy generation system combine technological innovation with coordinated action.
“In practice, this means that we can achieve significant carbon reductions in this space – and we look forward to continuing to showcase how we can deliver more sustainable events.”
