Dacia to enter Dakar Rally from 2025

Renault-owned marque to compete as manufacturer in World Rally-Raid Championship.

Renault-owned Dacia will enter the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), including the famous Dakar Rally, from 2025.

  • Prototypes will be tested as early as the Rallye du Maroc in 2024
  • Dacia will partner with the British motorsport and engineering group Prodrive for its entry
  • Car will run on synthetic fuel supplied by Aramco

Context: Renault Group had been rumoured to be interested in a return to the Dakar Rally, having achieved victory on one occasion back in 1982. It will do so through Dacia, the Romanian brand founded in 1968, which it relaunched first across Europe in 2004 and then in the UK in 2013.

Comment: Denis Le Vot, chief executive of Dacia, said: “Dacia and Dakar are a perfect match! Not only is this a test of Dacia's true robustness, but it is also a showing of our commitment to low-carbon mobility. We are very excited to take part in Dakar with synthetic fuel technology. Dacia, alongside the best team and drivers in the game, are serious contenders for the rally.”

Coming next: The Rallye du Maroc usually acts as the dress rehearsal for the Dakar Rally, so expect to see the Dacia entry break ground in October 2024.
