Cosworth partners with SimTag to produce sim racing steering wheel

Smart steering wheel represents Cosworth's first foray into the sim racing industry.

Automotive engineering company Cosworth has produced its very first sim racing steering wheel, in partnership with SimTag.

Confirmed:

  • This represents Cosworth's first foray into the sim racing industry
  • The product was officially unveiled at the recent Autosport International event

Context: Cosworth, which last participated in Formula One in 2013 as an engine supplier, is moving into the ever-expanding world of sim racing. The new steering wheel has been designed exclusively for simulators in partnership Belgian specialist firm SimTag.

Comment: Stefan Balkowiec, managing director of Cosworth Electronics, said: “It’s our very first sim racing product, utilising our decades of experience in motorsport electronics. We envision this to be a vital aid for drivers, especially those with the need to accurately replicate their real-life race cars for training purposes.”

Consequence: Cosworth will hope that the world of sim racing is able to iron out its faults, none more pertinent than the recent Le Mans Virtual event that saw Formula One world champion Max Verstappen suffer a disconnection that cost him victory.
