British Formula Four will continue on the support grid of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) until 2026.
Confirmed:
- British F4 to continue enjoying free-to-air coverage on ITV
- Series has been on BTCC support grid since 2015
Context: The championship has a storied history in motorsport, having been won by current McLaren driver Lando Norris in 2015. Under its former name of British Formula Ford, it counts Formula One world champions Jenson Button and Ayrton Senna as winners.
Comment: Alan Gow, chief executive of BTCC, said: “Having been on the bill since its inception back in 2015, the F4 British Championship has already helped shape some of the talent on the current Formula One grid, as well as entertain the millions of fans that have tuned in to watch the action.”
Consequence: The contract extension secures one of the main support categories for BTCC, an important move following the departure of Ginetta this year. Series promoter TOCA is still looking for a top-level junior championship to add to the existing schedule.
