The Aston Martin Formula One team have appointed Bob Bell to the newly created role of executive director – technical.

Confirmed:

  • Bell will report directly to team principal Mike Krack
  • He will have overall responsibility for the technical, engineering and performance functions in the team

Context:

Bell departed Alpine to take up this new opportunity with Aston Martin. The 65-year-old was notably technical director when the then-Renault outfit won their last world titles with Fernando Alonso in 2005 and 2006.

This is just the latest departure for the French team, following the exits of Matt Harman and Dirk de Beer, with both senior engineers having handed in their resignations before the start of the season.

In the past year, team principal Otmar Szafnauer, sporting director Alan Permane, chief technical officer Pat Fry and chief executive Laurent Rossi have all left Alpine.

Comment:

Mike Krack, team principal of Aston Martin, said: “I am delighted to welcome Bob Bell to Aston Martin Aramco. This is a key appointment to ensure we are optimising everything we do as a team and focusing on the right performance areas. Bob’s track record in the sport speaks for itself and his experience will help us continue to make steps forward on the exciting journey we are on.”

Coming next:

The second race of the Formula One season takes place this weekend in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 9th March.
