Alpine promotes Bruno Famin to lead all motorsport activities

Famin becomes bridge between senior personnel – including F1 team principal Otmar Szafnauer – and Renault CEO Laurent Rossi.

Alpine has appointed Bruno Famin to oversee all of the French marque’s motorsport activities.

  • Famin becomes vice president of Alpine Motorsports, reporting to chief executive Laurent Rossi
  • All senior personnel, including Formula One team principal Otmar Szafnauer, will now report directly to Famin

Context: Famin previously served as executive director of the Renault power unit programme, but this move will see him oversee all motorsport operations, including Formula One, endurace, and even offering support to the recently announced Dacia entry to the Dakar Rally. Despite the expanded remit, Famin will retain his responsibilities in the power unit division.

Comment: An Alpine statement read: ‘With this appointment, Bruno Famin will be in position to leverage his extensive experience in motorsports, built on his unique track record of victories, including several titles in Le Mans and Dakar. He will also contribute with his acknowledged engineering know-how, which helped re-establish Alpine’s F1 PU as a credible reference in the paddock, as well as his extensive experience in motorsports regulations, having long served as a well-respected FIA executive.’

Consequence: While this appointment covers all motorsport activities, a clear knock-on effect will be how the Formula One operation is run. Rossi has previously said “there will be consequences” to how the team’s season is progressing, and now there will be a closer eye on how Szafnauer is managing the process.
