AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost rules out sale

Reports suggested Red Bull may be looking to offload the sister outfit.

Franz Tost, the team principal of the AlphaTauri Formula One outfit, has refuted reports that the Faenza-based team may be put up for sale by Red Bull.

  • Shareholders not looking to sell the team
  • Red Bull to continue support of sister outfit

Context: A report from Auto Motor und Sport (AMuS) claimed that the AlphaTauri team could be sold by their parent company if they were unable to relocate to the UK due to rising costs. There were reportedly three interested buyers, including Andretti Autosport.

Comment: Tost said: “I had some very good meetings with Oliver Mintzlaff, who confirmed that the shareholders will not sell Scuderia AlphaTauri, and that Red Bull will continue supporting the team in the future. All these rumours have no foundation, and the team has to remain focused for the start of the season to perform better than last year.”

Consequence: Rumours will likely die down following Tost's statement, but the reports will have piqued the interest of parties wanting an easier way to enter the Formula One grid. Plus, the public denial hardly rules out a future sale. After all, just last season Ferrari claimed rumours of Mattia Binotto's departure as team principal were “totally without foundation” before he eventually left the team just a month later.
