The World Rally Championship’s (WRC) parent company WRC Promoter has been awarded three-star environmental accreditation by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

Key details:

  • The report commended WRC Promoter’s clear environmental policy, defined responsibilities and strong senior management involvement, backed by targets that are tracked and reviewed regularly
  • It also mentioned a strong focus on carbon management and sustainable mobility, and the integration of environmental considerations into supplier and partner management to help address indirect impacts across events and logistics

Context:

The accreditation supports WRC Promoter’s wider Beyond Rally programme, an innovation and sustainability platform designed to accelerate progress through collaboration.

The Beyond Rally programme provides a space for knowledge sharing and upskilling the community on state-of-the-art sustainability subjects. Topics covered by the programme include CO2 footprint tracking, mitigation planning, accreditation pathways and the exchange of best practices across the sport.

WRC Promoter first achieved the top level of the FIA’s sustainability accreditation in 2023 and continues to make environmental strides. Notably, WRC was the first FIA world championship back in 2016 to mandate three-star environmental accreditation for event organisers. By 2027, WRC expects all teams, suppliers and event organisers to have the accreditation.

Comment:

“Achieving FIA three-star environmental accreditation is an important milestone for us,” said Bernhard Hafenscher, WRC Promoter’s innovation and sustainability lead, who led the renewal process.

“It reflects the work happening across our operations and with our partners to manage impact responsibly, and it gives us a strong platform to keep improving.”
