World Rallycross (World RX) is targeting a street race in Coventry as early as 2025.
Confirmed:
- The series is in discussions with MotoFest Coventry with a view to a race next year
- Driven International has conducted a feasibility study and determined a race can be held on the city streets
Context:
After the success of last year’s season finale in Hong Kong, World RX is pursuing more city centre locations for the dual-surface discipline.
MotoFest Coventry is an annual event taking place in the Midlands, attracting in excess of 200,000 visitors. A proposed layout has already been drafted and over the next few months a period of consultation will take place with partners and, importantly, local residents to agree how the project can be taken forward.
Comment:
Arne Dirks, managing director of Rallycross Promoter, said: “Since being appointed promoter of this championship, one thing that has been clear to us is rallycross’ enormous potential to appeal to new audiences – a point very well-illustrated by the phenomenal success of our inaugural city-centre event in Hong Kong last year. That was a real ‘milestone’ moment and has encouraged us to explore further metropolitan locations.
“MotoFest Coventry has solidly established itself as one of the UK’s most popular car-themed events, and after being introduced to James [Noble – festival director] and his team, we quickly agreed that we share a common vision – to bring maximum entertainment to as many people as possible in a dynamic downtown setting. We are excited to continue working together as we investigate the possibility of incorporating World RX into MotoFest in 2025 and beyond.”
Coming next:
The 2024 World RX season gets underway with the World RX of Sweden from 6th to 7th July.
