The World Rally Championship (WRC) is set to introduce a comprehensive highlights programme for its WRC2 support series for the 2023 season.
Contract:
- The 26-minute show will be broadcast after every rally
- Available through the WRC+ over-the-top (OTT) platform and the series' broadcast partners
Context: The new highlights programme was broadcast for the first time after the season-opening Rally Monte-Carlo, which concluded on 22nd January. It aims to promote the next generation of rally drivers, offering a comprehensive review of all the key moments and top performances.
Comment: Peter Thul, senior director for sport at WRC Promoter, said: “The new highlights programme will provide a platform for these drivers to showcase their skills and prowess to a wider audience, all whilst increasing the profile of this ever-growing category.”
Consequence: This forms part of WRC's increased focus on its streaming offering. With the new Rally.TV OTT platform coming later this year, replacing the existing WRC+ offering, the series is ensuring the fans have access to a library of content ahead of the official launch.
