Super Formula and Super GT unveil 2023 calendars

Japanese series will begin on consecutive weekends in April.

Japan’s top single seater series, Super Formula, and sportscar series Super GT have unveiled their 2023 calendars.

The Super Formula calendar is identical to 2022, but it is unclear how many of these race weekends will be double headers. This year, three of its seven race weekends were turned into double headers.

Therefore, it is unclear on how many races that the 2023 season will feature, but it is set to open at Fuji Speedway from 7th to 9th April and conclude at Suzuka Circuit from 27th to 29th October.

Currently, all events are listed as three-day meetings, while Friday practice has only occurred on double-header weekends this season, adding a layer of intrigue to the potential makeup of race weekends.

Super GT’s 2023 calendar reveal also bears a strong resemblance to its current season and, like Super Formula, will turn out at Fuji Speedway and Suzuka Circuit twice each.

Only the first Suzuka race in June and the visit to Sugo in September will fall on different weekends to their 2022 scheduling.

The season will begin from 15th to 16th April at Okayama International Circuit and conclude at Mobility Resort Motegi from 4th to 5th November.

For a fourth season in a row, Super GT will not visit any overseas tracks, so there remains a wait for Malaysia’s Sepang Circuit to feature despite being on the 2020 schedule before the coronavirus pandemic caused it to be called off.
