- Announcement comes hot on the heels of Nissan
- Gen3 set to start for season nine in 2022
Porsche has announced its commitment to the next generation of electric single seater series Formula E, known as Gen3.
The German car manufacturer joined the series in 2019 for season six, making a return to single seater racing after a 30 year-absence.
Porsche's commitment to Gen3 reflects its internal goals of improving electric vehicle mobility and sustainable solutions with its road cars.
Gen3 is set to improve the cars' performance and efficiency by implementing lighter vehicles with more power, faster charging and cost controls.
This announcement comes after Nissan announced its commitment to Gen3 of Formula E.
"Ahead of another important technical milestone for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, I’m glad that Porsche has committed to the next era," said Jean Todt, Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) president.
"Being lighter, more powerful, with faster charging, the Gen3 race car will further establish the discipline as the pinnacle of electric racing. It’s also the confirmation that Formula E is the right platform to promote manufacturers expertise in electrification and demonstrate our shared commitment to more sustainable mobility solutions."
The 2021 Formula E season continues on 10th April in Rome, Italy.
