Nascar averaged 2.2 million viewers on USA Network for last weekend’s race at Richmond Raceway despite competition from the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Confirmed:

  • Viewership falls 8.6 per cent compared to last year’s audience of 2.43 million
  • NBC now averaging 2.847 million viewers for its portion of the Nascar season, which is stable compared to last year’s audience at the same point (2.851 million)

Context:

Only recording a marginal decrease in viewership despite going up against the closing ceremony of the Olympics should be a relief to Nascar and NBC executives alike. The stock car racing series paused its season for two weeks to negate the impact on audiences during the Games, but couldn’t avoid it entirely. That said, USA Network has now recorded two of the three lowest audience figures of the 2024 regular season.

Coming next:

There are now just three races left of the regular season before Nascar's playoffs get underway. Next up, the series visits the Michigan International Speedway on 18th August.
