The Nascar Cup Series's most recent race at Pocono Raceway saw the largest crowd at the circuit in more than a decade.
Confirmed:
- Nascar does not release attendance numbers, but the circuit sold around 50,000 grandstand tickets and 3,300 camping spots
- It was the largest crowd at Pocono Raceway since 2010
Context: Pocono Raceway traditionally held two races during the Nascar season, roughly six weeks apart in the summer. However, last year this was reduced to one weekend. There have also been a series of fan-friendly upgrades at the track, with both factors contributing to the overall increase in attendance.
Comment: Ben May, president of Pocono Raceway, told the San Diego Union Tribune: “We can’t fit another car, another RV, another person in here today.
"We think we deserve to be on the circuit, we’ve been on it for 50 years, so we’re going to continue to do more and more and better and better.”
