MotoGP has hired Kelly Brittain as its new managing director of global marketing for the 2025 season.

Confirmed:

  • This is a newly-created role that heads the marketing and promotion areas in MotoGP
  • Brittain will start in 2025 and be based in Madrid, reporting directly to chief commercial officer Dan Rossomondo
  • The series wants to ‘transcend racing and become an iconic entertainment and lifestyle brand’

Context:

Brittain moves to MotoGP from Red Bull Technology, where she served as brand and communications director since 2021. Driving and monetising fan growth during her time with the company, she will look to replicate that success at the global motorcycling series.

Brittain’s career has also seen her work within blue chip organisations including Mitchells & Butlers and Samsung, before working at Telefonica (O2) UK and serving as vice president of global brand and campaigns at DAZN.

Ahead of MotoGP’s impending acquisition by Liberty Media, there appears to be no better time for the series to reassess how it is marketing itself to its fans, and the appointment of Brittain emphasises this focus.

Comment:

Brittain said: “MotoGP is, deservedly, one of the most prestigious brands in sport and I’m thrilled that I will be working with the team to elevate the sport and expand the fanbase globally.

“Everything starts with the fans; understanding why they engage and what this sport provides them. Our aim is to amplify this on a global scale to unlock brand growth, which includes driving MotoGP’s presence across different media, cultural spaces and demographics the sport is yet to reach.

“There are already fantastic foundations in place across fan engagement, CRM, social media, as well as the strong working relationships with the teams and promoters. Our mission is to build on this and break down any barriers to engagement and growth.

“The ecosystem around sports has grown exponentially, with so many access points for both new and established fans, be that content, the proliferation of social channels, merchandise and brand collaborations.

“Working to maximise this for MotoGP is a really exciting prospect and it’s a privilege to be joining this exceptional team to drive this next chapter of growth and success.”

Coming next:

It’s a new race week for MotoGP but familiar surroundings as the series remains in Misano for a second event in three weeks. The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix taking place from 20th to 22nd September was first intended to be held in India and then Kazakhstan before financial and logistical issues derailed those plans.
