MotoGP welcomed a record crowd at last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix at Circuito de Jerez.
Confirmed:
- 224,420 turn up at Jerez to watch Álex Marquez’s first premier class victory
- Race day attendance (101,009) surpasses 100,000 attendees for first time
Context:
Attendance for the Spanish Grand Prix increased 24 per cent year-over-year (YoY), In contrast, 123,100 attended the event in 2022.
A contract extension for the race also appears imminent and BlackBook Motorsport understands it is on the verge of being finalised after Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, president of the Andalusian Regional Government, announced a “closed agreement” at last weekend’s event. The contract would be until 2031, bringing it in line with the other Spanish races in Barcelona and Valencia.
Coming next:
With three races in Spain now set to feature on the MotoGP calendar until 2031, 2025 could end up being the last race for Aragón. BlackBook Motorsport understands that the series wants to reduce the number of races in the Iberian region, which would also include the race in Portimão, although this event may be retained as a rotational option.
