MotoGP has confirmed Fox Sports as its new media rights partner in the US.

Contract:

  • Multi-year deal will see sprint and Grand Prix sessions broadcast across FS1 and FS2
  • All races will also be available via the Fox Sports app, with select races on Fox Deportes
  • Fox Sports to show repeats during the week following each race weekend

Context:

As reported by BlackBook Motorsport earlier this week, Fox Sports replaces Warner Bros Discovery (WBD)-owned TNT Sports as MotoGP’s US broadcast partner. TruTV and Max’s B/R Sports Add-On showed every race of the 2024 season live. The new deal starts from this weekend’s Thai Grand Prix, which will be shown on FS1.

This means that, at least for the start of the season, Fox Sports will be the home of MotoGP, IndyCar and Nascar in the US. The latter will depart the broadcaster in May when the Nascar season shifts to Amazon’s Prime Video, but this move cements Fox Sports’ position as the new home of motorsport in America.

Comment:

“We need somewhere we can lay down roots and build an audience,” Dan Rossomondo, chief commercial officer of MotoGP’s commercial rights holder Dorna Sports, told BlackBook Motorsport.

“Fox has a great promotions team and it is our job to build the sport to bring people there. It will be helpful to have cross-pollination with IndyCar and Nascar, but even more so with college [sport] and everything else they do.”

Bill Wanger, Fox Sports’ head of programming and scheduling, added: “Fox Sports is thrilled to be the new home to the best two-wheel racing in the world. We will carry every race of the international series live, giving race fans true appointment viewing for MotoGP.”

Coming next:

The MotoGP season gets underway this weekend at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand from 28th February to 2nd March. This will sit alongside IndyCar’s season-opening Grand Prix of St Petersburg and Nascar’s visit to the Circuit of The Americas on Fox Sports.
