Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Speedway Classic, which will see the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Braves face off at Bristol Motor Speedway, is poised to break the league’s single-game attendance record.

Confirmed:

  • Speedway Classic has sold more than 85,000 tickets
  • Game will beat previous attendance record of 84,587 set in 1954, when Cleveland Stadium hosted the New York Yankees

Context:

This is the first MLB game to be held in Tennessee. MLB said fans from all 50 states, as well as those from Washington DC, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and nine countries across four continents have bought tickets for the fixture.

The Bristol Motor Speedway, owned by Speedway Motorsports, annually holds two Nascar Cup Series events, as well as a Xfinity Series and a Truck Series race each. MLB will honour Nascar throughout the Speedway Classic, with racing-themed between-inning activations to take place and a pre-game player parade that mimics Nascar’s driver introductions.

An on-field Nascar ‘Victory Lane’ celebration will also be held for the winning team, with a custom Speedway Classic trophy presentation.
