Lewis Hamilton’s X44 Extreme E team land Vida Carbon title sponsorship

Deal with carbon credit investment firm to begin at this month’s Copper X Prix in Chile.
  • Team to be billed as X44 Vida Carbon Racing
  • Pair will work together to raise awareness of climate change

Lewis Hamilton’s Extreme E team, X44, have announced a title partnership with carbon credit investment firm Vida Carbon.

The deal will kick in from the Copper X Prix in Chile, which takes place from 24th to 25th September.

The length and value of the agreement have not been disclosed, but the pair will partner until at least the end of the 2023 season.

The agreement will see the all-electric off-road SUV racing team billed as X44 Vida Carbon Racing.

Carbon Vida unlocks carbon credit projects by investing in select initiatives around the world that directly reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. The company intends to work with X44 to raise awareness of climate change and positively impact the future of the planet.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, greenhouse gas emissions must peak by 2025 and be reduced by 43 per cent by 2030 if the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warning to 1.5 degrees celsius is to be achieved.

“Around the world, we are all feeling the direct impacts of climate change,” said Jamie Keech, executive chairman at Vida Carbon.

“Traditional motorsports have long been associated with having a negative impact on the environment, and though many series are taking encouraging steps towards a more sustainable future, Extreme E is unique in the way it approaches this issue.

“Our partnership with X44 is proof that sustainable practices and a net zero future are possible. Vida Carbon and X44 are working towards that future.”
