IndyCar’s RLL appoints Steve Eriksen as COO

IndyCar team continue to overhaul expansion programme.

IndyCar team Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) Racing have hired former Honda Performance Development (HPD) executive Steve Eriksen as their new chief operating officer.

Contract:

  • Eriksen joins after two years leading Chip Ganassi Racing's IMSA SportsCar Championship entry
  • He follows the appointment of Stefano Sordo as technical director

Context: Since the end of the 2022 season, RLL have overhauled their operations behind the IndyCar programme. A 100,000 square-foot headquarters was recently opened a few miles north of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the iconic Indianapolis 500, and this appointment represents the latest significant management hiring since longtime Formula One engineer Stefano Sordo joined as technical director.

Comment: Eriksen said: “It struck me how many new people there are here. If you look at the size of the team, it has grown significantly in a relatively short amount of time.”

Coming next: RLL will make their on-track debut at IndyCar's open test from 2nd to 3rd February in Southern California, before the first race of the 2023 season at the Grand Prix of St Petersburg on 5th March.
